{"id":2483,"date":"2015-07-16T17:52:37","date_gmt":"2015-07-17T00:52:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.talkinggrid.com\/?p=2483"},"modified":"2015-08-22T09:20:51","modified_gmt":"2015-08-22T16:20:51","slug":"may-in-manhattan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/may-in-manhattan\/","title":{"rendered":"May in Manhattan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Miraculously, I managed to pop into Manhattan twice in one month! \u00a0<a title=\"Spring in New York, 2015\" href=\"http:\/\/www.talkinggrid.com\/spring-in-new-york-2015\/\">My first visit<\/a>, the city had burst into color. \u00a0Cherry blossoms, tender pinks dominated the street trees. \u00a0Yes! \u00a0It was a beautiful visit, spent mostly on the Upper West Side. \u00a0That trip was gratifying. \u00a0Yet, on my more recent journey to Manhattan in May, I spent time in intimate discussion, closeness with two of my favorite people in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The Mysterious Madame L., a beauty with a superior mind, and Mr. Constantine Finehouse, concert pianist. \u00a0In town to participate in a clinical trail at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mskcc.org\/?gclid=CNrjhuXo4MYCFVKEfgodoKcMgQ\" target=\"_blank\">Memorial Sloan Kettering<\/a>, Hospital. Seeing my little <a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia University<\/a> fellows, my comrades on extensive romps all over Manhattan, now grown up and immersed in their respective professions, one in the Law and the other in Music, is heartwarming. \u00a0I came back to The West Coast ready to cope with the reality of my cancer complications, medications, and DRAMA. \u00a0I returned ready to take action to stop the cancer progression which would soon threatened my life.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2504\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2504\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_45841.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal size-thumbnail wp-image-2504\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_45841.jpg?resize=150%2C150&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"On The Go!\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_45841.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_45841.jpg?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_45841.jpg?zoom=2&amp;resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_45841.jpg?zoom=3&amp;resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2504\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On The Go!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The trip to New York City was altogether healing and I managed to cram a good amount of art viewing, with a visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\" target=\"_blank\">The Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a>, and into the embrace of my dearest friends. Madame L, graciously, invested days into lounging in my grateful company at one-hotel-or-another on Lexington Ave. \u00a0Champagne in no short supply&#8230; We had a great time, as usual. \u00a0Reading, agreeing, and finding beautiful details to savor. \u00a0We ate and walked, talked and listened. \u00a0We reveled in the BLISS that is pure friendship, understanding. Yet, I was tired. \u00a0Fatigued. \u00a0Anxious and ill, very ill. She made everything better by being with me. \u00a0We barely noticed that I vomited, after every lavish meal. \u00a0Together, my inability to move, became lounging rather than aching. \u00a0Thank goodness, Madame L was there, keeping me company, sharing secrets, and showing me how flowers grow between cracks in city streets, the poetry of small gestures, and the beauty of sacred pennies (rusted with time and invested with meaning), AH! \u00a0I love you, Madame L.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_4654-e1437092776291.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal aligncenter wp-image-2497 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_4654-e1437092776291-300x300.jpg?resize=300%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_4654\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, It was the Male Muse&#8217;s, <a title=\"Constantine Finehouse\u2019s Sushi Cure for Paris Nostalgia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.talkinggrid.com\/constantine-finehouses-sushi-cure-paris-nostalgia\/\" target=\"_blank\">Constanti<\/a><a title=\"Constantine Finehouse\u2019s Sushi Cure for Paris Nostalgia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.talkinggrid.com\/constantine-finehouses-sushi-cure-paris-nostalgia\/\" target=\"_blank\">ne Finehouse<\/a>, who made my day with Cuban Lunch from a quick, bright, restaurant across the street from <a title=\"Memorial Sloan Kettering\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mskcc.org\/?gclid=CNrjhuXo4MYCFVKEfgodoKcMgQ\" target=\"_blank\">Memorial Sloan Kettering, Hospita<\/a>l. \u00a0He had the right idea bringing his car and making sure I had food that speaks to my heart before retiring back into the hotel room&#8217;s spacious king sized bed. \u00a0We slept. \u00a0Exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>In the evening, the gallant Finehouse, concert pianist out of Boston, very cool dude, went out and returned with chicken soup and the nastiest but most welcome &#8220;New York,&#8221; \u00a0a smashing, throbbing homage to the cult of cut, fabric, and history in the superb Fashion Exhibit that will knocked my porcelain socks OFF! In a few steps,we crashed \u00a0into another world, each room was inspired and dark, lights focused on the embroidery, so tight as to bogle the mind, far away from the mundane, and into the temple of commerce where The Image of Fashion Design as a route is loudly tooted as a glorious path to personal salvation.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday Evening, I poured myself into a fine new knit dress and rolled west to Broadway, on my little black mule sling-backs, balancing, because I had tickets to see, <a title=\"Wolf Hall Part II.\" href=\"http:\/\/wolfhallbroadway.com\" target=\"_blank\">Wolf Hall Part Two, &#8220;Bringing Up The Bodies<\/a>,&#8221; the play is by author Hillary Mantel, a gem.
