{"id":1266,"date":"2013-05-02T19:36:25","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T02:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.talkinggrid.com\/?p=1266"},"modified":"2014-07-18T19:39:56","modified_gmt":"2014-07-19T02:39:56","slug":"way-back-la","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/talkinggrid.com\/dev\/way-back-la\/","title":{"rendered":"On the Way Back to LA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Playa del Rey, California<\/p>\n<p>2 May 2013<\/p>\n<p>Try this next time you have a flight pending:<\/p>\n<p>Go to a great restaurant and order yourself a great meal.\u00a0 Eat it.\u00a0 In the ideal restaurant, the meal is enormous.\u00a0 It is meant to fill you up with raw pleasure MORE than once.<\/p>\n<p>The steak from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithandwollensky.com\/locations-2\/philadelphia\/\" target=\"_blank\">Smith and Wollenski\u2019s in Philadelphia<\/a>\u00a0made my flight home heavenly, ease.\u00a0 Yeah. \u00a0Yes the porterhouse steak for two, \u00a0was\u00a0<em>that<\/em>\u00a0good. \u00a0The service, Fabian, was perfect: professional, earnest, and prompt. \u00a0This location, over looking Rittenhouse Square is date worthy.<\/p>\n<p>The cherry blossoms in ripe fullness of SPRING! The image of joy on my husband&#8217;s face as he sipped his glass of a bold deep red with hints of pepper and chocolate. \u00a0YUM!<\/p>\n<p>Or was it the memories of happy shopping in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitphilly.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia<\/a>\u00a0that make so happy on the flight home, back to LA?<\/p>\n<p>In just 24 hours, I accomplished SO MUCH!<\/p>\n<p>Thank you,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www1.macys.com\/shop\/for-the-home?id=22672&amp;edge=hybrid&amp;cm_sp=navigation-_-top_nav-_-22672_for_the_home\" target=\"_blank\">Macy\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>in downtown Philadelphia for the tremendous service.\u00a0 Specifically, Nicklaus was amazing.\u00a0 He was the paradigm of sales virtue helping me earnestly to collect the objects that will buffer my soul and comfort my body.\u00a0 His friendly, focused service made it possible for me to achieve the (almost) impossible mission I&#8217;d set before myself: create a wonderful HOME, a retreat, a secret sanctuary for my loving husband, for myself, and the kids.<\/p>\n<p>HOME: a place to return to.\u00a0 It is the place where you base yourself.\u00a0 It is from where you grow and expanding reaching out to the dazzling universe with ever changing interests and goals. \u00a0It is where your books are waiting for you to read them. \u00a0It is where your clothing hangs. \u00a0 \u00a0It is your nest, your hide-out.\u00a0 It is where you charge your batteries. \u00a0It is where you hang out in your underware and eat cereal in bed. \u00a0Home is more than an address, a roof, a fridge, and a shower stall. \u00a0Home is one&#8217;s own private paradise, a Utopian kingdom, a perfect cubby for the brain and body. \u00a0At BEST, home is sacred territory and must be treated as such.<\/p>\n<p>I stormed through the store and purchased all the required elements for a domestic paradise. \u00a0Breifly I was stranded, not trusting the rude boys that showed up to help me based upon my (BAD) Craigslist search for HELP transporting all my new treasures &#8220;back to the ranch.&#8221; Thanks to \u00dcber, a marvelous on-line, app-based service, I was able to use my iPhone and call for a car, an SUV truck, in disco black and equipped with party lights and booze (I did not indulge, this time) precisely when I needed one.\u00a0 WHAT A WONDROUS AGE we live in!<\/p>\n<p>Exactly then LIKE a bling BLING BLACK man-knight-giant: Emmanuel C. came to my rescue.\u00a0 He is a hyper street smart, super ghetto fabulous, savvy, entrepreneur and business-man TAXI driver.\u00a0 He had, \u201cno problem,\u201d helping me to get my many new housewares back to the NEW HOME, a little rental\u00a0<em>somewhere<\/em>\u00a0in Philadelphia.\u00a0 He also recommended the precisely right furniture store.<\/p>\n<p>AGAIN, I blitzed in and got the goods.\u00a0 Tamara, the saleswoman there really went out of her way to help me get the most comfortable and lovely home furnishings IMMEDIATELY.\u00a0 Would you believe that we arranged for delivery THAT VERY SAME NIGHT???<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it is true.\u00a0 We did.\u00a0 Thus, after eleven pm the movers arrived and they delivered and installed everything before midnight.\u00a0 I was just about to turn into a pumpkin when WHAM!\u00a0 They were GONE!\u00a0 Presto.\u00a0 I had a room full of new furnishings.\u00a0 Amazing.<\/p>\n<p>This morning, after a few important meetings, I went back to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www1.macys.com\/shop\/for-the-home?id=22672&amp;edge=hybrid&amp;cm_sp=navigation-_-top_nav-_-22672_for_the_home\" target=\"_blank\">Macy\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0where I dropped more cash on ideal home-wares, getting the final needed nothings, the little tools of the kitchen, porcelains, high thread count cotton sheets, and other everyday marvels that will make our world a cozy place.\u00a0 Based on the series of successful visits, starting with the first one, in the shoe department\u2026 on another visit to marvelous Philadelphia\u2026 (I&#8217;d popped into the crowded shoe department and the saleswoman was so patient and understanding of my skinny feet.\u00a0 She got me pair after pair of shoes until we found a pair I love.\u00a0 She persisted.\u00a0 She endured, like Nicklaus.\u00a0 He also gave of himself.\u00a0 Thus making my frenzied shopping extravaganza a productive and worth mentioning experience.<\/p>\n<p>The sum of my growing experience of life in Philadelphia is that it is a city one can proudly call, \u201cHOME!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By the way, IF I\u2019d have another day in Philadelphia there is no way I\u2019d miss the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.philamuseum.org\/exhibitions\/768.html\" target=\"_blank\">OUTSIDER ART\u00a0<\/a>Exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>And YOU know how much I crave dancing with the BRIDE.<\/p>\n<p>(I\u2019d LOVE to get nude and MOVE it around Duchamp\u2019s cracked masterpiece\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Butt, that is another story\u2026 Hah!)<\/p>\n<p>Love,<\/p>\n<p>Frau<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Playa del Rey, California 2 May 2013 Try this next time you have a flight pending: Go to a great restaurant and order yourself a great meal.\u00a0 Eat it.\u00a0 In the ideal restaurant, the meal is enormous.\u00a0 It is meant to fill you up with raw pleasure MORE than once.
