Can you? \u00a0Thanks to an intimate midnight art chat with the dashing young artist, California Native, with a New Yorker heart: Porcella ROCKS!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Last night, I had the pleasure of a serious art chat\u2026 with artist Don Porcella: not only did I learn a lot about the history of pipe-cleaners, which I will share with you\u2026 when you clamor for more information because it dawns on you that this is news of vital importance; you may not understand what is going on but the man in the dinner Jacket is artist <\/span><a style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14px;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.donporcella.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Don Porcella<\/a><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">, weaver of\u00a0pipe cleaner\u00a0hats and perfect sneakers in ideal boxes; all hand made in Porcella\u2019s secret method\u2026\u00a0I see a trend, blossoming, among artists trying to\u00a0reinvent art from the scraps of a dying civilization. \u00a0Schools in America might start teaching armies to create, the only thing of actual worth: condensed thought, philosophical understanding, and the capacity to invest the\u00a0creative\u00a0impulse in objects of singular significance and, therefore, enduring value.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Casually, California, Porcella introduces us to his art residency fellows: Mauro Andrizzi and Cecilia Jansson two artists in the residency with him in the photo (above). Also, included are a few photos from the Global Identity Project. \u00a0Above see images of three\u00a0talented fellows posing for Porcella, \u00a0&#8220;The Mao Hat,&#8221; he wove in his\u00a0unique technique which he\u00a0developed over years of\u00a0experimentation based on his mother\u2019s interest in the weaving of fabrics\u2026 interesting the way that the meaning always loops back to textiles\u2026 \u00a0to the\u00a0\u201cwoman\u2019s work,\u201d of weaving or growing silkworms for gowns and cloth, which\u2026 end-up defining reality and distinguishing one from the other. \u00a0\u00a0Speaking of\u00a0\u201cdistinguished,&#8221; did you catch Porcella\u2019s dinner jacket, he matches the movie star, George Clooney, at the center of the image, next to Ms. Jansson, in panache. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Of the actor, Porcella reports,\u00a0\u201cHe was\u00a0genuinely interested in communicating with the artists in the program, giving them individual attention and connecting with every artist in the program.\u201d \u00a0He says that the actor was,\u00a0\u201cgenerous,\u201d with his time and he could see why he was in demand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Ageless, good looks aside, Clooney, sounds like a lovely human. \u00a0I\u2019d love to meet him, too!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">\u201cHey Man!\u201d Clooney is reported to have said to Porcella as the men locked eyes for a first moment of mutual approval. \u00a0The expression, a throwback to black American\u2019s men\u2019s struggle to graduate from being &#8220;Cow-Boys,&#8221; grown men, called &#8220;Boys,\u201d by white men to indicate their junior status\u2026 was adopted by the hippy movement, out of San Francisco, when our own\u00a0\u201ccultural revolution,\u201d perhaps began.. or not\u2026 the details of history are always murky.. yet, we know, Clooney and Porcella connected in a hallway in Shanghai, last week. \u00a0(How is it that genius knows genius when it sees it?). \u00a0Well\u2026. Porcella\u2019s art adventure is not only punctuated by glamor and marked by messages ticking, throbbing, pulsating in the public sphere which are every where: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">(All the photos, here published, are done so with\u00a0permission of the artist, Don Porcella, \u00a9 2014)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px; font-family: Helvetica-Light;\">S<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: Helvetica-Light;\">peaking last night, early morning in Shanghai in intimate ART CHAT Stealth mode, in his cool California tones, Porcella told of his early love of Swatch Watch collecting\u2026 remember when that was the rage\u2026 well, time pieces\u2026 time is a tool; a construct, much like currencies are indicators of voltage and might; being exchanged for silk and weapons; power and glory. \u00a0Porcella is connected to the pulse of the universe. \u00a0He is there at the center\u00a0where\u00a0the big political drama which will define reality for billions of humans is unfolding right out side the general public\u2019s attention, as usual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 22px; font-weight: bold;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/pepe-escobar\/russia-china-alliance_b_5351086.html\" target=\"_blank\">On Putin\u2019s Visit to Shanghai<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px; font-family: Helvetica-Light;\">P<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: Helvetica-Light;\">orcella thoughtfully, reminds us that the current Russian policy toward homosexuals, and others not conforming to party\u2019s\u00a0vision\u00a0is aggressive,\u00a0condemning\u00a0 and repressive. \u00a0Those holding opposing views or living as homosexuals in Russia are being violently silenced. \u00a0One of the artists, participating in the\u00a0Global Identity Project, is a Bulgarian and he expresses concern, fear\u2026\u00a0even\u2026\u00a0over Putin increasing grip over his native Bulgaria and Putin&#8217;s anti-gay campaign. \u00a0We have witnessed the\u00a0incarceration\u00a0of the female punk band,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PyssyRiotTheDocumentary\" target=\"_blank\"> Pussy Riot<\/a>, over antics that would hardly raise an eye-brow, in Los Angeles, but which are treated as grand\u00a0offenses\u00a0to the\u00a0state by Putin\u2019s Russia. \u00a0We must take note.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: Helvetica-Light;\">Putin\u2019s vision for the world is not that which most artists and creatives would crave to regress into the discrimination and state sanction of violence against minorities and other non-conformists. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: Helvetica-Light;\">Ignore, the implications of this new Chinese and Russian trade agreement at your own risk. \u00a0(Meanwhile, I\u2019m learning Mandarin. \u00a0So that at least I will know which restroom to use in the future.
